Eagle Ridge validated as AVID National Demonstration School

Eagle Ridge Middle School has been validated as an Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) National Demonstration School. Validation signifies that the school is an exemplary model for successfully implementing AVID strategies and curriculum to support students in achieving academic and personal success.

AVID is a college and career prep program designed to increase the number of students who enroll in four-year colleges and improve college readiness for all students, especially those groups traditionally underrepresented in higher education.

Students and staff celebrated the distinction with a gathering in the media center on May 7.

Eagle Ridge named AVID demonstration school

“Over time, we've been witness to the student-first approach Eagle Ridge has taken. They are focused on providing the best possible learning environment by focusing on inquiry and collaboration, forging a path of possibility, exploration, and community,” said AVID District Director Colleen Coleman.

National Demonstration Schools are considered to be in the top 5 percent of schools using AVID in their learning.

“This is a testament to your commitment to student success and your exemplary AVID implementation,” said AVID Center Implementation Strategist Shannon Bailey. “Your dedication to fostering a culture of academic excellence and college and career readiness for all students is truly commendable and serves as a model for other schools.”

Demonstration Schools undergo a rigorous, multi-step validation process and are required to be revalidated every few years to ensure high levels of implementation, with quality and fidelity to AVID strategies schoolwide.

The AVID program in One91 has grown and evolved over the years, with elective classes expanding to all middle and high school grades, as well as the implementation of schoolwide strategies. AVID has had a positive impact on students, both academically and socially. AVID helps students develop the skills and mindset needed for success in high school, college and beyond. The program has also brought staff together as a community, working collaboratively to support student learning and growth.
